Lars Mikkelsen3-765x1024At age 27, he enrolled at the National Theatre School of Denmark at which he was graduated in the year 1995. Apart from his role in the drama series aired worldwide as The Killing, he subsequently played in two other critically highly acclaimed Danish dramas: Those Who Kill and Borgen III. He also played a major character in the BBC drama Sherlock in which he played blackmailer Charles Augustus Magnussen. He played the role of the Russian president in the American TV show House of Cards. He was awarded an International Emmy Award in 2018 for his part in the Danish television drama Herrens Veje, which was broadcast in the UK in 2019 as Ride on the Storm.In addition to his mother tongue Danish, Mikkelsen speaks fluent Swedish, German and English as well as mastering different accents. He has claimed that his brother and he initially picked up English by listening to Monty Python records and learning the sketches from the comedy show.
